2020 Tianjin University Doctoral Student Academic Forum Materials Sub-forum Successfully Held

In order to cultivate an academics atmosphere with enthusiasm towards research, and to stimulate the academic potential of students, the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Tianjin University successfully held the 2020 Tianjin University Doctoral Academic Forum-Materials Subject Sub-forum on November 5, 2020. The center of the forum is "Convergence of Thoughts, Innovation of Material". It aims to strengthen doctoral students the cross-field academic conversation and cooperation in the field of materials, and to encourage them to pursue targets, as well as innovation and excellence in scientific research, reflecting "seeking truth from facts" and "rigorous scholarship", as the school motto and disciplines of Tianjin University respectively, promoting the development of School of Materials Science and Engineering of Tianjin University.

Qi Wei, Director of the Graduate School Training Office, Wang Ying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Geng Yanhou, Associate Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor Zhang Tianyong and Professor Li Xiaohong, School Supervisors, as well as doctoral supervisors, sub-committee members and heads of the graduate department were invited to attend this forum.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Qi Wei, Director of the Graduate School Training Office gave a speech. She encouraged doctoral students to pay attention to the practicality of research materials in addition to publish high-level papers. Wang Ying, deputy secretary of the party committee of the college, also expressed her expectation for cross-field academic exchanges among doctoral students. In the expectation of the students, Chen Zhongbing, a senior expert and researcher-level senior engineer from Suzhou Thermal Power Research Institute, combined his own practical experience with research results, making an introduction of "welded joint failure analysis methods and experience" to the graduate students, which aroused the enthusiasm of the students’ discussion. Lin Danyang and Cai Xiaoqiang et al. 11 outstanding doctoral students, respectively reported on their research work and demonstrated their current research results in a simple and straightforward way. The students present made broad and deep conversation based on their own professional fields.

Finally, at the closing ceremony of the forum, Geng Yanhou, the dean of postgraduate teaching, made a concluding speech. He pointed out that academic research need open mind. The school hopes to create a denser academic exchange atmosphere through this forum as well as correct research consciousness, and hope students not afraid of difficulties, actively explore and climb the peak of scientific research. This forum enhanced the academic exchanges between doctoral students and teachers, schools and enterprises, providing more opportunities for cross-field cooperation, which won wide praise from teachers and students.
